The budget app for expats with banks in more than one country

Monya is a budget app for expats and digital nomads. It works with any bank in any country because it never connects to your bank: you log spending by voice or with a screenshot of your banking app, and on Android bank notifications become entries automatically. Cards, cash and savings in dozens of currencies sit in one budget.

Why bank sync fails abroad

Apps like YNAB, Monarch and Copilot import transactions through bank aggregators, which mostly cover banks in the US and parts of Europe. A card from a bank in Thailand, Turkey or Mexico usually can’t be connected, so you’re back to typing every purchase by hand. And the home card, the local card and the cash in your pocket end up in three different places.

How Monya handles it

  • Any bank. Say the expense or screenshot the banking app. Monya doesn’t need a list of supported banks.
  • Every currency in one budget. Each account keeps its own currency; reports and budgets show totals in your main currency at current rates.
  • Spend in one currency, pay from another. “Dinner 1,200 baht from the Wise card” is recorded correctly.
  • Transfers between your own accounts, including between currencies, by voice too.
  • Trip mode collects spending from a trip separately, so a visa run or a holiday has its own total.
  • Reconcile with a photo. Photograph your bank balance and Monya finds what’s missing.
