Import transactions from a screenshot of your banking app

How it works

1. Open the transaction history in your banking app and take screenshots. Scroll and take more if the list is long; they can overlap.
2. In Monya, choose Statement screenshots and pick up to 8 images.
3. Monya reads the text, finds each payment with its date, amount and payee, and suggests a category.
4. You see the list of new entries. Remove or edit anything, then save.

If every payment on the screenshots is already in Monya, the app tells you so and adds nothing.

Why screenshots work with any bank

Most budget apps import transactions through a bank connection, and those connections cover a limited list of banks, mostly in the US and parts of Europe. A screenshot needs no connection. If your banking app shows a list of payments with amounts, Monya can read it. That includes small local banks, e-wallets and cards from a second country.

It also means you never type your bank password into another app. Monya gets a picture of the list you chose to show it, and nothing more.

How Monya avoids duplicates

Screenshots of a long history often overlap, and you may import the same week twice. Monya handles both cases:

• the same payment seen on two screenshots in one import is kept once;
• a payment that is already in Monya with the same date, type, amount and currency is marked as already recorded and isn't offered again, whether you first logged it by voice, from a bank email or from a notification.

Two identical coffees on the same day are counted correctly: one existing entry matches one payment on the screenshot, so the second coffee still gets added.

Reconcile an account with a photo of the balance

When the balance in Monya doesn't match the bank, open the account and use reconcile. Take a photo or screenshot of the account screen with the balance and the recent history. Monya finds the bank balance, lists the payments that are missing and shows the difference, so you can add them until it reaches zero.

What Monya does with your screenshots

• The screenshot is sent as an image to the AI model, which reads the text and returns only the transactions. Card numbers, account numbers and phone numbers are removed from its answer before anything is saved.
• The images aren't stored, and the AI provider doesn't use them for training.
• Screenshots are read in all 18 app languages, including Thai, Japanese, Chinese, Hindi and Arabic.

Other ways to bring in your history

Screenshots are the quickest way to fill a gap of a few days or weeks. For longer periods, Monya also imports bank statements as CSV or as a PDF statement. For everyday spending, you can say "coffee 4.50, taxi 12", forward bank emails to your Monya address or, on Android, let banking app notifications become entries.
